Writing a blog post

In this article, you'll learn how to write a blog post for your website, add a cover photo, edit it later and delete it. A steady blog gives Google fresh pages to index and gives your customers a reason to come back to your site.

This is a dashboard feature on the web. It isn't in the phone app.

To open the Blog tab:

  1. In the dashboard menu, click Website, then Content.
  2. Across the top of the page, click the Blog tab.

The Blog tab lists the posts you've written yourself. Posts written for you by Auto-Blog live under Website › Auto-Blog instead. If you haven't written anything yet, the tab says "No posts yet" with a nudge to write your first one.

Note: Edits go live on your site within a couple of minutes. There's no separate publish step for the site itself.

Write a post

  1. Click Write a post. A New post form opens.
  2. In Title, type the headline. The Publish post button appears once the title has text.
  3. In Author, type who wrote it. It shows next to the date in your post list.
  4. In Short summary, write a sentence or two. This shows on the blog list page and in Google results, and it also sits under the headline at the top of the post.
  5. In Post text, write the post. Leave a blank line between paragraphs. Each blank line becomes a new paragraph on the live page.
  6. Click Publish post. The button reads Saving…, then the form closes and the post appears in your list with today's date.

Here's what we see most often.; hover text=Publish post]]

The post's address on your live site is your domain, then the blog folder, then a short version of the title with a four-character code on the end. The address is set when you publish and doesn't change if you rename the post later.

Add a cover photo

While you're writing a new post, the Cover photo box says "Save the post first, then add a cover photo." So the order is publish first, then add the picture.

  1. In your post list, click the post (or its Edit link) to reopen it. The form is now titled Edit post.
  2. Under Cover photo, click Add photo and choose a picture. JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF files work.
  3. Wait for Uploading… to finish. The picture appears in the box.

The cover photo shows on the post's card on your blog list page and across the top of the post itself. To swap it, hover over the picture and click Replace photo.

Tip: The Cover photo uploads on its own. You don't need to click Save changes afterward.

View the post on your site

In the post list, click View live next to a post. It opens the post on your website in a new tab. You'll only see View live once your site has a domain.

Edit a post

  1. Click the post, or its Edit link.
  2. Change the title, author, summary, text or cover photo.
  3. Click Save changes. The button only appears once something has changed, and it reads Saved when the update has gone through.
  4. Click Close at the top right to go back to the list.

If a save fails you'll see "Couldn't save — try again" next to the button.

Delete a post

  1. In the post list, click Delete on the right of the post.
  2. The link changes to the question Delete this post?. Click Yes, delete, or Cancel to keep it.
Warning: Deleting removes the post from your website right away, and there's no undo.
