In this article, you'll learn how to create a lead from the phone app. It's handy when a call or a chat in the driveway turns into "can you come take a look?" You can get it written down and on the calendar before you forget.
Not sure whether something should be a lead or a client? See Understanding clients vs leads.
Start a new lead
There are two ways in. Use the first for someone new, and the second when the lead is for a customer you already have.
To start a lead from the + button:
- Go to Home, Conversations, Schedule or Contacts on the bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the + button at the right end of the bar.
- Tap New lead.
To start a lead for an existing customer:
- Tap Contacts and open the customer.
- Tap the + at the top right of their page.
- Tap New lead.
When you start from a customer's page, the form opens with their name, company, phone, email and address already filled in, and the lead is saved to that exact customer.
Fill in the New Lead form
The form is split into four cards. A lead needs at least a name, a phone number or an email. Everything else is up to you.
Client Details
- Enter the Client name.
- Add a Company name if they have one.
- Enter the Phone number. There's an Ext box on the right of the same field if you need an extension.
- Add their Email.
Service Location
- Enter the Address and Unit.
- Fill in City, State and Zip.
- Country starts as United States. Change it if you need to.
Lead Details
- Give the lead a Job name if you use job names.
- Tap Job type and pick one from your list.
- Tap Job source and pick where the work came from.
- For a new contact, you'll also see Where did they come from? with a Source dropdown. It starts on Other. Pick the right one if you know it. This doesn't show when you started from an existing customer's page.
- Add a Job description with anything you want to remember about the work.
Scheduled
Every new lead goes on the schedule. There's no switch to leave it unscheduled.
- Pick the start date under Starts, then the time under At.
- Pick the end date under Ends, then the time under At.
- Tick All-day event instead if you don't want set times.
The start date is today, and the start time is your business's first open hour that day (from your schedule settings). The visit runs two hours. If you change the start time, the end time moves with it and stays two hours later.
Save the lead
- Tap Create in the bar at the bottom of the screen. It stays there however far down the form you scroll.
- You'll land back on your leads list. A new lead doesn't have its own page on the app, so look for it there.
If something's wrong, you'll see a Couldn't create lead message telling you what to fix. The most common one is a lead with no name, phone or email.
When the customer says yes, turn the lead into a job. See Converting a lead into a job.
