Seeing where your online bookings come from

In this article, you'll learn how the CRM records where each online booking came from, and where to look it up. There's nothing to switch on: the booking page reads where the visit started and saves it on the new customer, so you can tell which ads and links are turning into jobs.

To see a customer's Source:

  1. In the menu, click Clients. The list has a Source column and a Channel column.
  2. Click the customer. Under Customer details you'll see Source: followed by where they came from, then the channel line, for example "booking via yourdomain.com".
  3. Click edit to change the Source or Channel drop-downs by hand, then click Save.
Note: On a phone and in the app, the customer's page shows a Source row under Estimates. Tap it to open the Source and Channel drop-downs.

Nothing to set up

Settings › Online booking has no source or campaign picker, and the booking link is the same for everyone. The booking page remembers the first page of the visit: the site that sent the visitor and the landing address with any tags on it. A tagged arrival is kept for 90 days, so someone who comes back later from a bookmark still counts for the ad that first brought them.

What the booking page records

When a visitor books, three things are saved on their customer record:

  • Source is where they came from. A Google Ads click becomes Google Ads. A Facebook or Instagram click becomes Facebook. A tagged link names its source (see below). A visitor with no tags, including one who found you in a search or on another website, is filed under Website. A booking on one of your satellite sites is filed under Microsite.
  • Contact point is the website they booked on.
  • Channel is booking.

The Source is set once and never changed automatically. If the person is already a customer with a Source, the booking keeps the one they have. Only a hand edit on their page changes it.

What the job gets

The booked job carries the same Source. If the visit said nothing, the job's Job source is Website. When your booking page takes requests instead of booking straight onto the calendar, the lead carries the Source, and the job you create from it takes it too.

Google Ads adds its click ID on its own, so you don't need to do anything there. For everything else, add a UTM tag to the end of the link you put in the ad or on the flyer. Put a question mark after your booking page address, then the tag:

  • utm_source=facebook files bookings under Facebook.
  • utm_source=yelp, nextdoor, thumbtack, angi, bing, tiktok, youtube or linkedin file under that name.
  • Any other value becomes a source named after it. utm_source=spring-mailer creates Spring Mailer the first time someone books from it.
Tip: Google Ads bookings all land under one Google Ads source. The CRM doesn't split them by campaign or ad group.

Seeing it in reports

In the menu, click Reports, then ROAS. Each Source is a row with Spend, Leads, Channel, Jobs booked, Jobs paid, Revenue and ROAS, plus cost per lead, booking and conversion. Customers with no Source sit in the Unattributed row so the totals still match your books. Spend comes from your bank charges matched by rules, or amounts you type in on the same page.
