In this article, you'll learn how to delete an estimate, one at a time or several from the Estimates list, and what to think about before you do.
To open your estimates:
- In the menu, click Estimates.
- Click an estimate to open it.
Before you delete an estimate
Deleting is permanent. There's no undo button and no trash folder to pull it back from, so take a second before you confirm.
- The number is kept. If you delete EST-1042, the next estimate you write is still EST-1043. Numbers are never reused, so your records stay in order.
- A job you copied it to is untouched. When you use Copy to job, the job gets its own copy of the items. Deleting the estimate afterwards doesn't change the job or its items.
- A deposit that's already been paid stays paid. Deleting the estimate doesn't refund anything or remove the deposit invoice. If the money needs to go back, refund it from the invoice first.
- It disappears from the lists. The estimate leaves the Estimates page, the client's history and the counts on your Home screen.
Tip: If you only want the estimate out of the way, change its status instead. On the estimate page, pick Archived or Declined from the Status dropdown. You can also change it right in the Status column of the Estimates list. The estimate stays on record and you can bring it back later.
Deleting one estimate on the web
- Open the estimate.
- Click Actions at the top right.
- Click Delete.
- Your browser asks "Cancel estimate EST-…? The number stays on record." Click OK.
You're taken back to the Estimates list and the estimate is gone from it.
Deleting several estimates at once
This only works on the web.
- On the Estimates list, tick the box at the left of each estimate you want to delete.
- The bar above the list reads "N estimates selected". Click Delete.
- Your browser asks "Delete N estimates? The number stays on record." Click OK.
A yellow notice above the list tells you how many were deleted. If one couldn't be, the notice names it.
Deleting an estimate on the phone app
- Tap Estimates and open the estimate.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap Delete.
- The app asks "Cancel estimate EST-…?" with "The number stays on record." underneath. Tap Yes, cancel it.
The estimate closes and drops off the list. The app has no way to tick several estimates and delete them together; use the web for that.
Note: On both the web and the app, the message says "cancel" but it's the same thing as deleting. The estimate won't come back.
