In this article, you'll learn how to delete an invoice on the web and on the phone app. It's for an invoice that was made by mistake or doubled up, so it stops cluttering your lists.
To open your invoices:
- In the menu, click Invoices.
Before you delete an invoice
Deleting is meant for invoices that shouldn't exist. A few things to know first:
- An invoice with a payment on it can't be deleted. You'll see "This invoice has payments on it. Refund or remove them first." Deal with the payment, then try again.
- There's no undo. The invoice is voided and taken out of your lists, and there's no button to bring it back. If you might need it later, keep it.
- Its number stays used. Delete invoice INV-1042 and the next one is still INV-1043. A number is never handed out twice.
- If the invoice was ready to take a card payment online, that pending card payment is cancelled along with it.
Delete an invoice from its page
- Open the invoice.
- In the row of buttons under the summary card, click Delete.
- Your browser asks "Delete INV-…?" with the invoice number. Click OK.
You're taken back to your Invoices list. If the invoice can't be deleted, the reason shows in red under the buttons and nothing changes.
Delete several invoices from the Invoices list
- In the menu, click Invoices.
- Tick the box next to each invoice you want to delete. To pick every invoice on the page, tick the box in the header row.
- In the row above the table that says how many invoices are selected, click Delete.
- The confirmation reminds you the number stays on record and that an invoice with payments can't be deleted. Click OK to go ahead.
When it's done, a line at the top of the table tells you how it went, for example "Delete: 2 of 3 done." Any invoice that couldn't be deleted is named there with the reason, and it stays in the list.
Delete an invoice on the phone app
- Open the menu and tap Invoices, then tap the invoice.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
- Tap Delete invoice.
- When asked "Are you sure that you want to delete this invoice?", tap Yes, delete.
The invoice closes and your list refreshes. If it has payments on it, you'll see the same message as on the web and the invoice stays put.
