Choosing which phone number customers see

In this article, you'll learn how to fill in the Phone step of onboarding, where you pick the number customers see. It's worth a minute of thought, because this is the number that goes on your website, your Google listing and your directory listings.

You already have a free local business number. It's set up and waiting in your CRM whatever you choose here. This step only decides which number you show the public.

To open the Phone step:

  1. Start onboarding and work through the Setup steps.
  2. After the CRM step, you'll land on Your business phone number.

This step is on the web only.

Use your new business number

Pick this one if you want your calls and texts to run through the CRM. The card lists what you get:

  • Every call recorded, transcribed and summarized on the customer's record
  • Business hours, a professional greeting and voicemail, and an automatic text-back on missed calls
  • Calls and texts that ring your cell and the app, all logged in the CRM so your team sees every conversation
  • Branded, verified caller ID, so customers see your business name instead of "Spam Likely"

If you said Yes, I'd like to use it on the CRM step, this card shows a Recommended badge and the line "Since you're using the CRM, this is the one we recommend."

  1. Click Use your new business number.
  2. Click Continue.

There's nothing to type. Your new business number is the one that goes on your website.

Keep your current number

Pick this one if you'd rather not change anything customers already know. It's the number on your truck, your cards and your reviews, your Google listing and directory listings stay the same, and calls ring the way they do today.

  1. Click Keep your current number.
  2. In Your current business number, type the number. It may already be filled in from an earlier step, so check it's the right one.
  3. Click Continue.

Move your current number into the CRM

This gives you both: the number customers know, plus the CRM features (recording, business hours, logging). You call and text from the app with your own number, and your website, Google listing and directory listings never change.

Note: The card itself says this isn't recommended unless the number is already a separate business line. If it's your personal cell, think twice, because the number belongs to the business once it moves.
  1. Click Move your current number into the CRM.
  2. In The number to move, type the number.
  3. Click Continue.

The move doesn't start right away. We start it together on your onboarding call, and nothing changes until then.

If Continue won't click

Continue stays greyed out until you've picked one of the three options. If you picked Keep your current number or Move your current number into the CRM, the number also needs at least ten digits. Add the area code and it'll unlock.

Until you're set up

The note at the bottom of the step covers the gap before your onboarding call. Until you're set up in the CRM, calls to your business number ring your cell, and you'll get a text on your cell when someone messages it. So nothing's missed in the meantime.

Tip: You can click Back to go to the CRM step and change your answer there. That's what decides whether the Recommended badge shows here.
