In this article, you'll learn how to check the business details on the Check it over sheet during onboarding. Most of it comes filled in for you. Your job is to fix anything wrong and add the few things only you know, like your EIN.
Why does it matter? These are the details the phone carriers need before they'll register a texting number in your business's name. If they don't line up, your texts can get held up.
To get to the sheet:
- In onboarding, go to the Your business step under Setup.
- Click Connect Google and sign in with the Google account that manages your Business Profile.
- Pick your listing, then click Continue.
We read your Google listing and, where we can, your state's business filing, then open the sheet with the heading Check it over.
Where each field came from
Every field has a small tag on its right that tells you where the answer came from:
- Google: your Google Business Profile listing.
- [State] filing: your state's business records, for example Idaho filing.
- signup: what you typed when you signed up.
- on file: something we already had for your account.
- default: a starting guess you should check, like LLC for the business type.
- edited by you: you changed it. The box gets a gold outline.
- missing: it's empty. The box turns red.
Every field on the sheet is required. Continue stays greyed out until nothing says missing.
The Business panel
- Business name: the name customers know you by.
- Legal name: as it appears on your EIN letter.
- Business type: pick LLC, Corporation, Partnership, Sole Proprietorship, Non-profit Corporation or Co-operative. It starts on LLC.
- EIN: nine digits, like 12-3456789. The dash goes in for you. It's the one field we can't look up, so you'll almost always type it. If you've typed fewer than nine digits, the tag shows how many, like 7 of 9 digits, and you can't continue.
- Business address: street, city, state and ZIP. Use a street address, not a PO box. The state box takes the two-letter code.
- Website: your site's address, like yourbusiness.com.
- People on the team: how many people work in the business.
- Caller ID name: what people see when you call them, exactly as you type it. It's capped at 15 characters, and the counter under the box shows how many you've used. It switches to capitals as you type, has to start with a letter, and only takes letters, numbers, spaces, periods and commas.
- Time zone: this sets when your texts and calls go out. If we couldn't work it out from your listing or address, it says Choose… and you pick one.
The Authorized contact panel
This is the person the carriers treat as responsible for the number. It usually comes from your signup.
- Your first name and Your last name
- Mobile
- Your title: it starts as Owner. Change it if that's not you.
Picking a different listing
If the sheet was built from the wrong Google listing, click Change next to Google connected at the top. You'll go back to your listings. Pick the right one and click Continue.
Saving your work
You don't need to save as you go. The sheet saves itself a moment after you stop typing, so if you refresh or come back days later, what you entered is still there.
When every field is filled in, click Continue to save the sheet and move to the next step.
