In this article, you'll learn how to save a copy of an estimate as a PDF. That's handy when you want to attach it to an email you're sending from somewhere else, or keep a copy in your own files.
There's no download button on the estimate page itself. The PDF lives on the customer's view of the estimate, so you open that view first and download from there.
To open the estimate:
- In the menu, click Estimates.
- Click the estimate you want to download.
Opening the customer's view
- On the estimate page, click Actions at the top right.
- Click Preview as customer.
- The customer's view of the estimate opens in a new browser tab.
Note: Opening the customer's view counts as a view of the estimate, the same as when your customer opens the link you sent. If the estimate hasn't been opened yet, the first preview marks it as viewed.
Downloading the PDF
On a laptop or desktop screen, the customer's view has a ⋮ menu at the top right of the estimate.
- Click ⋮.
- Click Download as PDF. The PDF opens in a new tab, where your browser can save it.
- To print it instead, click Print. The PDF opens and the print dialog follows.
On a phone-sized screen, the customer's view shows a Download PDF button in the bar at the top instead of the ⋮ menu. Tapping it doesn't download the file to your phone. It emails the PDF to you.
- Tap Download PDF.
- Check the address in the Email the PDF box. It starts with the customer's email address, so change it to yours if you want the copy yourself.
- Tap Send. You'll see Sent once it's on its way.
Tip: The PDF is built from your Estimate template, so the logo, layout and wording match what your customer sees. To change how it looks, see Customizing estimate, invoice and receipt templates.
On the phone app
- Open the estimate.
- Tap ⋮ at the top right.
- Tap Preview as customer. The customer's view opens in your phone's browser.
- Tap Download PDF, confirm the email address, then tap Send. The PDF arrives by email.
